I saw it again and said “that’s it, I’m gonna type it down!” to myself. What did you saw you ask. I saw another youtube thumbnail promising a “mind-blowing photography!”. Do I have to tell you I didn’t click? Is it ok, that I don’t want the photography to blow my mind (why would I want my mind to be blown anyway)?
Not to say I never wanted to make “mind-blowing” picture to amaze people, to make them think I am absolutely awesome. To make them notice me. I surely did. And you know what – some of my pictures seemed to me at some point in time kinda mind-blowing. But in time, very often, if not always, this factor did fade away and only then I saw the actual picture a little better.
Picture remains, hype does not.
I’m sure you already know, that there is much more to photography and any art and in fact any activity, than stupid empty lazy superficial hype attempts. Take this rant as my contribution to universe balance.
Or maybe we feel our pictures lost that hype factor, that they don’t blow anyone’s mind. Good! Now there is a room to find what we love in photography for real!
Anyway – hype is a distraction. Rat race. Carrot and stick.
Are we in marketing or photography?
