Pinhole adventures #2 – ups and downs

23.10. 2024

Nothing is ever perfect, right? In last post I thought about velcro zip tie my camera to things, to minimize camera shake when I operate the shutter and so far I can declare success on this front.

One could say my camera is going places.

Or, there is at least one more option – if you already go through the hassle of creating yourself fancy super-light and super-small camera, you can as well take a brick with you! Makes perfect sense!

I, for now, consider the issue of camera shake solved. I took a few pictures and no visible shake. What is however very visible is millions of nasty white speckles. Sigh. There’s always something, right? Not sure what caused them – maybe not using distilled water, maybe fixer with silver in it. I also think I overexposed the film a little bit too much.

I really tried hard to edit the speckles out in gimp with heal tool and for a few minutes I felt like some painter and said to myself “look how easy I usually have it – I can put in work and patience too”, so I did.

Pinhole photography demonstrates yet another advantage here – there is not really that much detail to lost by editing. I absolutely cannot imagine doing this in picture taken with sharp lens. In any case, I really hope this was one of the last times I de-speckled photo.

And scratches, I have to fix the scratches…
