Before I got nasty sick for at least a week I had some weekend fun with my new fancy enlarger and through those two days I tried fiber paper (it is great) for the first time, did some dodging and burning for the first time (it is even better) and realized, that the lens that came with enlarger is slightly worse than I even expected.
I mean, only real prior experience I have is with my diy junk enlarger, where I used old helios 44-2 and as far as I can tell, that one is much much better. Holds sharpness in the corners much better for example and I think it is just sharper overall.
Well, this is the point in the story, where prior messing around with diy junk pays its dividends for our hero. Because now he believes that he can grab his helios and somehow slap it onto his fancy enlarger.
It is actually pretty easy, at least in prototype version – i cut circles from plastic, glued them together to make them tougher with black paper to make them opaque. Stick m42 mount ring to the middle and there you go, done.
Test is imminent, I’ll keep y’all posted.
